My story about the name Kai is dedicated to Kai Vorberg. Kai was the leader of our JRG Cologne vaulting team as well as my individual competition. In 1997, he and I attempted to qualify for the European Championship in Aachen. Kai did not make the German team, but I did with our horse Bernstein. It was a political disaster since we were coached by his mother, Brunhilde Vorberg. Before the competition, I received all of the necessary uniforms from German Equip. I had an appendix surgery two weeks before the European Championship and cracked my shoulder blade two weeks later. This is why I could not compete in the Championship. Kai was my substitute and had to come to my house to pick up the uniforms. Before he arrived, I took a camera and photographed all of the outfits to ensure that I had them for at least a time. Giving these clothes away made me sad, and it triggered my first bout of depression. After two weeks, I was competing in the German Championships alongside the squad. The recovery period was insufficient, and I continue to suffer from chronic pain and instability as a result of the complete decompensation of my right side where the appendix was removed. Did you know that an appendix procedure indicates that you do not feel wanted in this world? In 2000, I abandoned vaulting to study dance in Cologne. In 2006, I was in the middle of my studies and felt miserable. One morning, as I was leaving the house, I noticed a large image of Kai on the front of Bild Magazine. He had won the World Championship in Aachen and was dressed in the attire shown in the picture. Because Kai was a highly strong persona, many of us experienced this type of pain. After a while, he even kicked his mother out of the stable and became the head coach at Cologne. He is now Germany's head coach, working at the Olympic equestrian facility in Warendorf. I forgive Kai because we had a great time together as team captains. The team has always meant more to me than the individual sport. My first homosexual friend's name was likewise Kai, and we met on a gay phone sex line. I told him about my issues with the other Kai. Once, he attended a vaulting competition in Rhede. Because we only showed images to each other, he assumed I was Kai and Kai was me. He began to speak negatively about Kai's performance, which was my. It was really perplexing and reminiscent of "the closet" drama. What is your experience with competitors, injuries and the name Kai?
